Body of Notice:

Greetings,

The Alaska Fire Standards Council (AFSC) is currently seeking interest in filling a seat on the AFSC Board. This seat represents a member of the public at large from a community of less than 2500. The AFSC encourages interested individuals to submit an application through the Alaska Boards and Commissions office. This seat is vacant at this time, and the Alaska Boards and Commissions office will review applications for interest in this seat.

The AFSC has had an active Council over the years, and anyone with an interest in serving should consider the time necessary for this commitment and carefully review the information posted on the AFSC website (www.firestandards.alaska.gov). The AFSC office can answer any questions about the functions of the AFSC Board members, and information about functions and responsibilities can be found on the website.

The AFSC currently has strong representation in South Central (Anchorage north) and Interior Alaska, and is seeking interest from individuals in other regions of the state. Please note each member seat has a specific eligibility requirement, and applicants must meet the requirement to be considered for the seat. The following member seat is currently available:

*Member of the public at large from a community with a population of 2,500 or less (Public/Restricted/2500 or Less)
http://www.gov.state.ak.us/boards/rosters/board202.html

*Note that this seat is intended for individuals that are not directly affiliated with a fire department or actively working as a firefighter.

The State of Alaska Boards and Commissions office is responsible for the review of all applications. Questions specific to the Boards and Commissions should be directed towards their office. The Boards and Commissions office application can be found at: http://gov.state.ak.us/boards/bc_application.pdf. All applications for the AFSC must be sent directly to the Boards and Commissions office. For the Boards and Commissions office information and appointment details check their website at: http://gov.state.ak.us/boards/.

The current member seat opening is not for individuals working or volunteering as a member of a fire department, and those of you in communities of fewer than 2,500 should forward this announcement to people that might be interested. Please solicit and encourage from individuals in your community to apply, and call or email me if you would like additional information about service on the Alaska Fire Standards Council.

Respectfully,
